The mood around VfL Wolfsburg could be better: Last Saturday, the Lower Saxony team suffered a narrow 2-3 defeat against TSG 1899 Hoffenheim. Despite this bitter bankruptcy, Paul Simonis remains the club's coach for the time being. This was reported by Radio Ennepe Ruhr and thus highlights a tense situation for the team.
Sports director Sebastian Schindzielorz expressed optimism after the game and assured that both the coach and the team are striving for a common direction for the next game. The next duel takes place on Friday at 8:30 p.m. against SV Werder Bremen and could be an important game for Wolfsburg. However, Schindzielorz did not want to make any statements about Simonis' long-term future. So the uncertainty remains.
Home game causes worry lines
The statistics also speak volumes: Wolfsburg have been without a win in their own stadium for almost ten months and were only able to get two points in the Volkswagen Arena this season. During the defeat against Hoffenheim, 19,078 spectators watched the action on the pitch. The goalscorers for Hoffenheim were Wouter Burger, who scored in the 31st and 62nd minutes, and Grischa Prömel (50th minute). On the Wolfsburg side, Mohammed Amoura scored the goal in the 14th minute and again in the 56th minute.
Particularly bitter for Wolfsburg: The team recently lost 1-0 to second division club Holstein Kiel in the DFB Cup. It is clear that the pressure on Simonis and the team increases when they are eliminated so early in two competitions and the performances in everyday league life are not convincing.
