Warning: Listeria recall at Rewe and Edeka – it’s that dangerous!

The worrying news comes from the refrigerated shelves: several foods from the Rewe and other supermarket ranges currently have to be recalled due to possible bacterial contamination. The Federal Office of Consumer Protection and Food Safety (BVL) has issued a warning that focuses primarily on fish products and raclette cheese. Numerous consumers could be affected in the coming days.

The first recall involves Entremont brand raclette cheese slices. There is a risk of listeria, which can pose serious health risks, especially for pregnant women, newborns, older people and people with weakened immune systems. The recall affects various packaging sizes with best-before dates until November 27, 2025. Anyone who bought the products can return them to the points of sale without a receipt and receive the purchase price back Ruhr24 reported.

Focus on fish products

In addition to the cheese products, seven different fish products from Ostseefisch and Saßnitz Fisch were recalled. These include, among others:

  • Ostsee Fisch Feine Heringsfilets nach Matjesart (300g)
  • Ostsee Fisch Edle Matjesfilet (150g)
  • Ostsee Fisch Kräutermatjes (150g)
  • Ostsee Fisch Räuchermatjesfilet (150g)
  • Rügen Fisch Räuchermatjesfilet (250g)
  • Saßnitz Fisch Edler Matjes Nordischer Art (300g)
  • Saßnitz Fisch Kräuter Matjes nach Rügen Art (250g)
  • Saßnitz Fisch Rauch Matjes Nordischer Art (250g)

The affected best-before dates also extend until the end of November 2025. The same applies here: The products were offered in branches of Edeka, Globus, Dohle, Jawoll, Transgourmet and other sales outlets. Be careful if you have any of these products at home! According to derwesten.de, the affected items should not be consumed, but should be returned or disposed of immediately. If you have any health problems, we recommend that you see a doctor immediately.

The recalls were published to protect the health of consumers. Consumer protection is more important than ever in these times, as listeria can often occur unnoticed in food. The symptoms of an infection are varied and range from fever to diarrhea to serious illnesses.

So if you want to avoid listeria, you should take a look in the refrigerator and return affected products to the checkout. These recalls underline the importance of food safety in Germany and remind us to always be careful when shopping.
