Diamond wedding in Bad Münstereifel: 62 years of love and happiness!

Their story began 62 years ago in Freiburg on the Elbe: Helmut and Edith Tschernay. They celebrated their diamond wedding on July 12, 2025, an occasion that allows the couple to look back on a journey together that is rich in experiences and challenges. As the Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger reports, Edith, née Scheele, met Helmut on an evening that would change her life. Their love began with a small mishap - she came home late after a dance party and got in trouble from her parents. Helmut, a professional soldier at the time, insisted on apologizing to Edith's parents for the delay the next day. This gesture opened the door to a relationship that soon took up every free minute.

Edith's father's initial skepticism towards soldiers subsided, and the engagement followed a year after the apology. Another year later, with Helmut in a stylish uniform, they exchanged vows in Freiburg. Their marriage was shaped by common interests - they shared a passion for volleyball, while Edith worked as a typist in the Bundeswehr. Over time, the couple managed to create unforgettable memories through travel and many shared experiences, such as cruises in the Mediterranean. They even chose their golden honeymoon on the high seas, entirely in keeping with their spirit of adventure.

Shared challenges and moments of happiness

The Chernays' lives were not only characterized by positive experiences. Today there are many couples, as Michael Bruckner reports in Mayschoß, who are forced to think about their experiences after the flood disaster in the Ahr Valley. Bruckner, a couples counselor, describes the difficulties that plague many relationships. Although there are some who were not traumatized by the flood, it is often the different experiences that have a stressful effect. Many couples struggle with sleep problems, loss of appetite and anxiety. In such moments it is important to create time and space for your partner's emotions. This is a challenge that can severely test good relationships.

Trauma in relationships can also play a role in Helmut and Edith's marriage. Conflicts often arise in relationships with different needs. Allowing space for confusion and hurt is crucial to finding a path together. Helmut and Edith learned this with all their ups and downs; they emphasize that it is important to share experiences and support each other. It is precisely in these aspects that the strength of their marriage is evident.

A highlight of the celebrations

To celebrate their diamond wedding, their daughter and son organized the preparations without the parents' knowledge, which made the surprise all the better. Anyone who stops by to celebrate such joy and happiness can only understand what Edith and Helmut Jann said: A fulfilled life is the result of memories created together and the tireless striving to overcome even difficult phases together. For them, marriage is a gift that has continually developed over the years, like a well-tended plant.

Helmut and Edith Tschernay look back on 60 years of happy marriage and are a living example of how love, patience and sharing experiences actually lay the foundation for a fulfilling life. Here’s to many more adventures!
