Construction work in Gelsenkirchen: one-way streets and buses replace trains!

From today on Horster Straße in Gelsenkirchen will be a little more complicated, as a section between Kampstraße and Pannschoppenstraße will become a one-way street. The reason for this is necessary track construction work, which Bogestra is expected to carry out by August 30th. Drivers must be prepared for detours that are clearly signposted. This means they can only drive in the direction of Buer, while the traffic flow is redirected in the direction of Horst. These measures were necessary to renew the tram tracks in the area, as Radio Emscher Lippe reports.

But that's not all: From August 14th, bus service on line 301 will be used between Buer Süd and Horst, as the trams cannot run during construction work. The Pannschoppenstraße and Hügelstraße stops in the direction of Horst are not served, which also applies to the NE14 in the direction of Landschede. Public transport users should be prepared for a change in travel times, as buses have different departure times than trains. It is advisable to consult the Bogestra app or visit the website before departure for the latest timetable information.

Details about the construction work

The track construction work on line 301 will cover the period from August 13th to probably August 30th, 2025. Work will be carried out at night and on weekends in the affected area. Citizens are asked for their understanding as there may be traffic delays during this time and they are advised to use detours. The city of Gelsenkirchen has also made a construction site map available online where current construction sites and traffic disruptions can be viewed. Further information about the work can be found on the platform Gelsenkirchen.de.

In addition, Bogestra states that there will be a combined replacement service for lines 301 and U11 from August 22nd to 29th. The Essener Straße stop is only served by certain journeys and the journey continues to the Boyer Straße stop on the U11. Individual trips between Boyer Straße and Buerer Straße are also planned.

Advice for road users

The city asks all road users to keep these restrictions in mind and plan alternative routes. General information about traffic disruptions and construction sites in Gelsenkirchen is also on the website Bogestra can be viewed. We hope for your understanding of these short-term changes and wish you a safe and pleasant journey! The construction work is necessary to ensure that the infrastructure in Gelsenkirchen remains up to date and ultimately helps to improve the ride quality.
