Traffic light coalition in Hamm: Family-friendly projects for the city!
Today, November 3rd, 2025, things are getting hot in Hamm. The new traffic light coalition made up of the SPD, Greens, FDP and Volt has signed its coalition agreement and is making a big splash when it comes to sustainable and family-friendly urban development. Residents and political representatives are optimistic that the planned changes will have a positive impact on life in the city. As lippewelle.de reports, Mayor Marc Herter emphasized that respectful treatment by all partners was crucial in the negotiations.
The newly elected council will meet for the first time at 4 p.m. and set the course for the coming years. One of the central innovations is the introduction of a family card, which will enable the Hammers to enter leisure, sports and cultural facilities free of charge or at reduced prices. A digital family city map will also provide a practical overview of playgrounds, leisure activities and baby changing facilities. These are two nice innovations for families in Hamm!
Education and digital future
Another highlight of the coalition agreement are the plans to continue the renovation and modernization of the schools in Hamm. Investments in digital equipment and a broadband connection should not only improve learning conditions, but also enable WiFi in school sports halls. Innovative projects such as climate-friendly rail freight transport via the planned Westphalia multi-hub and a hydrogen center with an electrolyzer (20 MW) are moving the city sustainably into the future.
The coalition has also set ambitious goals regarding climate protection. The new climate monitor is intended to provide current climate data, while a municipal heating plan will further expand the district and local heating networks. Cycling, buses and trains should be given more support, with the examination of further 30 km/h sections also being on the agenda as part of transport planning. And the best thing about it: the funding for the construction of cycle paths will be increased by one million euros!
Community and social projects
The coalition is also planning the “HAMM 100K” project, which provides 100,000 euros annually for youth meeting points in urban districts. The introduction of a uniform HammPass as a social pass should also further improve the quality of life for all citizens. A special measure is the new construction of the municipal animal asylum, which is intended to ensure species-appropriate animal accommodation. In order to encourage the adoption of animals from the animal shelter, the dog tax for the first dog from the animal shelter will be abolished. These are all measures that will find great support among the population.
The coalition has put together a solid program that could pave the way for child-friendly, climate-friendly and fair urban design. In the end, all that remains to be seen is how quickly and successfully the projects and visions will be implemented. But one thing is certain: Hamm is likely to experience exciting developments in the coming years.
