Brawl in Lidl parking lot: 15 people involved and two injured!

On the night of Saturday to Sunday, October 26th, there was a fight in the parking lot of a Lidl store on Kamener Strasse in Pelkum. Around 15 people were involved in the altercation, with two receiving minor injuries. The reason for this was the use of pepper spray. The police were quickly on site and had to clarify the incident, but were unable to confirm a direct connection between the fight and a parallel celebration in the community hall opposite. This reports calf.

The party, called “Turn Back the Time,” attracted between 400 and 500 happy revelers. According to the organizers, the atmosphere there was peaceful and relaxed. The police were alerted at around 1:30 a.m. about disturbing the peace because the music was apparently too loud. However, complaints about noise from the community hall are not a new phenomenon. Residents have been complaining for some time about disturbances in the peace and quiet, which often occurred after 10 p.m.

Disturbances and their consequences

The demand for greater control by the public order office and the organizers has become loud among residents. Three years ago there were similar problems with disturbances of the peace at private celebrations in the community hall. Such disputes can be problematic not only for social but also for legal reasons. Typothek reports that police operations in Germany are financed through taxes and citizens do not normally pay the costs directly. However, under certain conditions, fees may also apply for police operations in the event of disturbances of the peace.

If the disturbances occur repeatedly, the organizer could be asked to pay. Factors such as the severity of the disturbance or the behavior of the person responsible play a decisive role. In this case, too, residents could issue a written warning to the organizer if the disruptions persist. As a rule, it is important to create documentation of the incidents in order to be able to take legal action.

What to do about noise pollution?

Residents are increasingly turning to preventative measures to avoid unpleasant disturbances. This includes, among other things, direct communication with neighbors or mediation via a property manager. In an urban environment, where celebrations and events often take place, the interests of those celebrating and local residents may clash. It is therefore essential that everyone involved has a good hand in defusing conflicts.

In summary, yesterday's brawl is not an isolated phenomenon, but rather highlights a larger context of disturbances and residents' complaints that need to be addressed sustainably. If the residents' complaints are listened to, a more peaceful coexistence between revelers and residents could be made possible in the future.
