On November 3rd, 2025 the time had come: the “Greens in the Herne City Council” faction celebrated its official constitution. This begins the new electoral period, which lasts until 2030. The group's members include Sabine von der Beck, Justus Lichau, Anna Schwabe, Thomas Reinke, Nicola Henseler and Pascal Krüger. Anna Schwabe and Justus Lichau have taken over the leadership and want to act as a constructive and demanding opposition force for the citizens.
The group has set itself very ambitious goals. The focus is on future-oriented urban policy, climate protection, environmentally friendly mobility, sustainable urban development and socially just education policy. Sabine von der Beck summed it up when she emphasized the need for constructive opposition work. Justus Lichau also pointed out key challenges that need to be overcome - in particular climate protection and social justice.

In the upcoming version Ubuntu 26.04, Rust will even be used for standard Linux core tools, such as basic Unix commands. The aim is to achieve functional parity with the GNU coreutils, while at the same time improving security and maintainability.
