Construction site chaos in Hochsauerland: full closures at the start of the holidays!
In the Hochsauerland district, renovation work will start on the B480 and K15 on July 14, 2025, which will lead to full closures and diversions.

Construction site chaos in Hochsauerland: full closures at the start of the holidays!
There is no reason to be bored in the eastern Hochsauerland district, because two large construction sites begin with the start of the summer holidays. These mainly affect the B480 between Olsberg and Winterberg and the K15, which leads from Olsberg to Altenbüren. The temporary restrictions should not be underestimated and it is important that all road users prepare well for them.
The sections affected by the renovation work on the B480 are in the through towns of Olsberg-Assinghausen, Wiemeringhausen and Winterberg-Niedersfeld. The comprehensive renovation work, which began on May 19, 2025, is primarily aimed at improving traffic safety and infrastructure. The plan is to renew the road surface and repair the road gullies.
Details about the construction sites
The first section of the B480, which is fully closed from today, stretches from Niedersfeld between Grönebacher Straße and the entrance to the gas station. In the second section, the road will be closed up to the town sign in the direction of Wiemeringhausen. The aim is to complete the first two construction phases by the end of July 2025. Diversions are signposted via Olsberg-Wulmeringhausen, -Brunskappel and Winterberg-Siedlinghausen.
The construction site on the K15 will result in an expected full closure of four weeks. The road surface between Olsberg and Altenbüren will be renewed. This section extends over a length of 3.85 kilometers from the exit of Olsberg to the entrance to Altenbüren. Here too, there are clear detour signs so that no one should get stranded in the chaos of the construction site.
Impairments in bus traffic
The construction work also has an impact on bus traffic. The express bus S30 can only run between Brilon-Stadt, train station and Olsberg, train station. The section between Olsberg and Medebach is no longer applicable, but passengers to Medebach and Winterberg have the option of using the S50 line from Olsberg train station. To help residents and commuters find their way around better during the fault, additional shuttle services were set up from Niedersfeld via Hildfeld and Grönebach to Winterberg. For regular passengers from Medebach towards Olsberg/Brilon, the lines R46 and R48 are recommended. The regular timetables should apply again from August 27, 2025.
The renovation measures are not only a challenge, but also necessary to raise traffic safety in the region to a new level. The infrastructure is being improved in many places - for example in Assinghausen, where sidewalks and bus stops are also being renovated. Around 1.35 million euros will flow into the overall measure, which should be finally completed by the end of September 2025.
Road safety measures
In order to manage the increased traffic during construction work, comprehensive traffic safety measures will be implemented. An increase in traffic volumes is expected in Wulmeringhausen, Brunskappel, Siedlinghausen and Silbach. In order to increase traffic safety, pedestrian signaling systems are being installed in Winterberg-Silbach and Siedlinghausen, among other things. In addition, a temporary speed limit of 30 km/h will apply on Hochsauerlandstrasse, particularly near the retirement home in Silbach.
Meanwhile, professional knowledge in the field of traffic engineering is promoted through special courses offered by the professional association for accident prevention. These have a positive effect on the planning and implementation of infrastructure projects, which ultimately also benefits safety on our roads. The combination of renovations, traffic adjustments and targeted training shows that the Hochsauerland district has a good knack for safe roads.
For everyone affected by the construction sites: It is important to observe the time and the recommended diversions. With a little patience and planning, everyone can reach their destination safely.
