Burglary in the cemetery: Unknown people steal valuable tools in Issum!
A brazen burglary was committed in the quiet community of Issum-Sevelen on Nieukerker Straße between Tuesday, July 1, 2025, 2:00 p.m. and Wednesday, July 2, 2025, 6:30 a.m. Unknown perpetrators broke into the locked storage garage of a cemetery and stole several valuable tools. The stolen items included a leaf blower, a chainsaw, a pole hedge trimmer and a lawnmower. The total value of the loot is in the low four-digit range, as Antenne Niederrhein reports.
The Geldern criminal police have already started the investigation and those responsible are asking the public for help: Witnesses who made suspicious observations during the times in question can report information by calling 02831 1250. This shows how important cooperation between the police and citizens is in solving crimes.
Burglaries – a current problem
Burglaries are a serious problem in Germany. According to surveys by the Federal Statistical Office, the numbers have increased again in recent years, especially after the corona pandemic. In 2023 alone, there were around 119,000 residential burglaries, which is the highest number since 2019. Nevertheless, this is over 50% less than in 2015, when the peak was reached at around 167,000 cases, as Statista notes.
Many people's sense of security suffers from such incidents. A burglary is not only associated with material damage, but also violates the privacy of those affected and can result in psychological consequences. The risk of a break-in is particularly higher in urban areas than in rural areas. In this context, it is important to be aware of the dangers and take preventive measures.
The impact of burglaries should not be underestimated. The clearance rate in the same year was only 14.9%, while the overall clearance rate was 58.4%. In this sense, every tip from the public can provide crucial support to the police in their work.
The incident in Issum-Sevelen is another indication that safety in our neighborhood cannot be taken for granted. Stay vigilant and help keep our community safe.
