Cologne is planning 200 new apartments: More space for families and singles!
Cologne is getting a breath of fresh air on the housing market: over 200 new apartments are being built on two properties in the Rodenkirchen district. How Landlord guide reports, the housing company Vivawest will take the turnkey apartments into its portfolio after the planned completion in mid-2029. A real blessing for the future tenants, who will soon be able to move into four modern residential buildings with a total of 209 1 to 5-room apartments.
The new buildings cover a total area of around 14,400 square meters along the Ringstrasse and will not only create new living space, but also provide public green and play areas. Of the 209 apartments, 51 are price-controlled and publicly subsidized, which is particularly advantageous for households with lower incomes. All buildings meet the high efficiency house standard 40 QNG, a pioneering decision with regard to energy consumption and climate protection.
Innovative energy concepts and more space for the family
The energy concept for the residential complex is also remarkable: heat pumps and photovoltaic systems ensure an environmentally friendly energy supply for the residents. Another plus point is the planned underground car park with 136 parking spaces, which will relieve the parking situation in the area.
But that's not all! Additional living spaces and even a 6-group daycare center will be built on the neighboring building sites 3 and 4. The city of Cologne meanwhile, promotes the construction of rental apartments with low-interest loans and aims to meet the needs of the resident population, especially families.
Funding programs for affordable housing
North Rhine-Westphalia has made it its mission to create more subsidized and affordable housing. With support from housing subsidies, rent-controlled and occupancy-controlled apartments are to be created that are attractive for families and young professionals. This is a central concern of the state government, as stated on the pages of MHKBD is to be read. The funding is particularly important in cities with high demand for housing.
The city of Cologne and the ministry offer individual advice on funding to ensure that both family-friendly living space and barrier-free apartments can be built. These initiatives are part of a comprehensive plan aimed at successfully meeting the challenges of the housing market.
A good mix of new housing options and well-thought-out funding programs shows that Cologne is on the right track to cope with rising housing costs and the demand for affordable housing. The first construction work is scheduled to begin at the beginning of 2026 - a start that is eagerly awaited.
