Colin Smith strengthens Düsseldorfer EG: Talent with impressive statistics!
Düsseldorfer EG (DEG) has landed a real coup in this transfer period. Colin Smith, a second-rate player with impressive statistics, is moving from Eispirate Crimmitschau to DEG. Head coach Rich Chernomaz describes the newcomer as a “playmaking winger” who can also shine as a center. From now on, Smith will wear jersey number 41.
Smith, born June 20, 1993 in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, brings a wealth of experience from both North American hockey and European leagues. In the last two seasons at Crimmitschau he has collected an impressive 111 scorer points, which means more than one goal contribution per game. He scored 22 goals and contributed 89 assists. In the 2023/24 season he achieved 44 scorer points each in a joint mission with Max Balinson. His technical skills and good pace make him a valuable player in the DEG squad, especially in outnumbered situations where he can particularly exploit his strengths.
A versatile player with a colorful career
Colin Smith has proven himself in his career so far not only in Germany, but also in various European leagues. Previously, he was primarily active in the American Hockey League (AHL), where he recorded 208 goals in 347 games. His appearance in the NHL with the Colorado Avalanche was the culmination of his youth career before he started his professional career. In 2012, he was selected 192nd overall in the 7th round of the NHL Entry Draft.
He was also able to represent Canada's colors internationally, for example at the U18 World Cup. His move to DEG shows that he is ready to take the next step in his career and demonstrate his skills in the highest German ice hockey league, the DEL.
A look at the DEL
The German Ice Hockey League (DEL) is the highest level of ice hockey in Germany and was founded in 1994. The league has since developed into a renowned platform. The record champions are the Eisbären Berlin, who have won eight championship titles, closely followed by the Adler from Mannheim with seven titles. The first champions of the DEL were the Kölner Haie in 1995. With 14 active clubs, the DEL has created lively competition that is continually raising the quality and level of German ice hockey.
