Krefeld honors sporting volunteers: awards given out in the town hall!
On October 29, 2023, the council chamber in the Krefeld town hall was visited by many trainers, officials and sports enthusiasts, because there was a special honorary event on the program. Mayor Karsten Ludwig and Jochen Adrian, chairman of the City Sports Association (SSB), presented awards for volunteer work in sport and honored more than 20 committed personalities. It was a celebration of recognition for all those who work in the background and support their sports clubs.
Jürgen Klaffki, a long-standing board member of the Krefeld Police Sports Club, stood out among those honored. He was awarded the city's honorary plate for his almost 30 years of work as a press officer and his role as second chairman since 2018. Klaffki has not only left a lot of traces on the police sports club; He made a significant contribution to the planning and implementation of major events such as the German police sports club handball championships. His work on the executive board of the umbrella association of police sports clubs in North Rhine-Westphalia also shows how high his commitment is. Under his leadership, the police sports club was voted police sports club of the year in 2000.
Special recognition for deserving athletes
The event was filled with other honors. Medals from the city sports association were awarded to Gerd Ehinger (Hülser SV) and Philipp te Neues (Crefelder Rowing Club), among others. In addition, numerous athletes received badges of honor, including:

A very special highlight was the “Young Volunteers” award. Four players from Hülser SV in the areas of football and roller hockey were highlighted here: Yannick Dahners, Julian Hoenninger, Lennart and Mate Zachau. These awards highlight the important role that young people play in sport and how valuable their contributions are to the clubs.
Cultural touch during the honor
The musical accompaniment to the event was provided by the talented duo Maurice Pooth and Tiziano Mazzoleni, whose performances created a pleasant atmosphere. This underlines that such honors are not only a form of recognition, but also a moment of community gathering and celebration.
As the local press and other reporting emphasize, it is this form of commitment that enriches local sporting life and keeps the clubs alive. In a world often dominated by hectic activity and competitive pressure, it is important to honor and remember this tireless commitment to sport.
