Kuper in Israel: Remembrance and education in the fight against anti-Semitism

On October 31, 2025, André Kuper, President of the State Parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia, visited the important Yad Vashem memorial in Israel. This happened as part of his four-day delegation trip, which also includes the Palestinian territories. On this moving day, Kuper laid a wreath to commemorate the victims of the Holocaust and also advocated for the opening of a Yad Vashem educational facility in his state. Together with Dani Dayan, Chairman of Yad Vashem, he discussed important aspects of the culture of remembrance and education regarding the Holocaust.

Kuper expressed his positive support for the initiative, which is supported by the state of North Rhine-Westphalia as well as various religious communities and social associations. The aim of this initiative is to combat anti-Semitism, which is particularly important today. Sylvia Löhrmann, the state representative for combating anti-Semitism, makes a significant contribution to recognizing these challenges.

Continuation of the delegation trip

The delegation's journey, which also includes the President of the Constitutional Court of North Rhine-Westphalia, Professor Dauner-Lieb, will take them further to the Palestinian territories over the next few days. Several important visits are planned, including to the Christian village of Taybeh in the West Bank, where the delegation would like to get to know the current situation on site. There will also be an exchange with young volunteers from Aktion Sühnezeichen / Peace Services, which aims to promote international understanding.

A particularly poignant stop on the trip will be a visit to Kibbutz Be’eri, which was affected by a terrorist attack on October 7, 2023. Here there will be the opportunity to talk to former hostages and relatives of victims. A silent memorial will also be dedicated to the victims of the attack at the Nova Music Festival.

Reminder and support

The call to remember the Holocaust is particularly important given the rise in anti-Semitism. The Vision for Israel website emphasizes the importance of spreading the truth about the Holocaust and advocating for the protection of the Jewish people and the State of Israel. Encouragement for personal commitment and changes in society and work is regularly addressed. A valuable approach to support is through contact with Holocaust survivors, whose stories should be heard to keep collective memory alive.

At the same time, it is necessary to show solidarity and offer practical support in these difficult times. Various organizations are committed to supporting Holocaust survivors through events and financial support. This not only remembers the past, but also addresses the current challenges that many of these survivors experience every day.

The combination of the experiences and conversations on this delegation trip makes it clear that remembering the past and standing up against anti-Semitism are still indispensable today.
