The start of autumn in Lage: weather whims can't dampen the mood!

The autumnal mood can be felt - head high, that's how the market square in Lage presented itself when welcoming autumn on October 26th, 2025. Organized by the Evangelical Reformed Marktkirchen congregation, many visitors flocked to the square despite the initial rain to take part in the hustle and bustle. The event featured a varied program ranging from can throwing to bobby car riding, while pumpkins were on hand for the upcoming Halloween decorations. Can throwing, a traditional game in which the aim is to hit a stacked tower of cans with ball projectiles, was very popular and made the festival a real highlight of the season, according to Xtreme Events.

While the weather initially didn't cooperate, it cleared up as the day progressed and made way for sunshine, which further reinforced the positive mood. Gastronomic offerings attracted visitors with tempting delicacies. From freshly prepared crepes to hearty grilled food to the popular Manta platters from the Stukenbrok butcher shop, there was something for every palate. A mulled wine stand also created an early Christmas atmosphere that put visitors in a cozy mood.

Art and culture in autumn

The event was musically accompanied by Mick March, who entertained the visitors with his guitar. Street artist group Arttremondo provided additional entertainment, but had to abruptly end their performance due to an accident. Despite these incidents, the atmosphere in the market square remained cheerful and welcoming. A flea market event was also planned on Bergstrasse, but it had to be canceled due to unforeseen circumstances. While such setbacks are always unfortunate, this did not detract from the positive atmosphere. The conclusion of the day was clear: despite the changeable weather, the atmosphere was consistently positive.

These types of events reflect the charm of autumn - a time when tradition meets conviviality. And the autumnal customs also captivate many people outside of Lage. Festivals like Törggelen are very popular in South Tyrol. Many farms there are transformed into culinary stopovers for hikers, serving delicious specialties and young wine. The term itself comes from the Latin word "torquere", which means "to press", and follows the tradition of thanking the helpers after the grape harvest with home-made food and fresh wine, as Holidaycheck reports.

In this colorful season and with all these festive activities, one thing is clear: Autumn has its own distinctive magic that is worth celebrating. Whether in Lage or elsewhere, this time frame invites everyone to live and experience the connection to community and our roots.
