Creative weeks in Detmold: workshops, repair cafés and more!
Something is happening in Detmold! The Wandelwerkstatt invites you to a series of exciting events in the coming weeks that stimulate creativity, community spirit and social innovation. The creative textile project starts on Monday, June 30th from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Here participants can use old fabrics and sewing machines to let their imagination run wild. If you like working with fresh ingredients, you should mark the 4th of July in your calendar - then processing cherries will be a thrilling challenge, also in the changing workshop at the same time.
There is a very special event on the program on Saturday, July 5th: the “Positive Communication” workshop will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and registration is required by June 4th. July 6th, the open garden day in the Snake Community Garden from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., also promises beautiful insights into nature and the neighborhood.
Creative and socially active
The following Saturday, July 11th, will be all about energy: Anyone who would like to help beautify the convertible workshop and the backyard is warmly invited to get involved. During the summer holidays there are also many fun activities for children between the ages of 8 and 12 in the wilderness garden camp from July 13th to 16th. Registration is required here.
A highlight of the summer months will be August 2nd, when the “Positive Communication” workshop will be offered again - if you want to be careful with words, you shouldn't miss anything! On August 9th and 16th, the focus will be on the repair cafés in Snakes and Detmold, where defective items can be examined with expert support. And on August 28th, the KleiderTauschRausch will take place in the Detmold open-air museum - a real opportunity to refresh wardrobes.
The Wandelwerkstatt is open regularly until July 12th, after which there will be some limited opening hours during the summer holidays. An interesting innovation is the “Urban Pulse” project, which aims to revitalize empty apartments in Detmold. This is done in collaboration with the Ostwestfalen-Lippe University of Applied Sciences and other regional actors. After a five-year process, a housing project and best practice examples will be developed that promote sustainable forms of living.
This initiative shows how important social innovation is for the transformation of urban spaces and connects committed citizens with experts to develop sustainable concepts. A look at the anthology on urban transformation confirms that social aspects are increasingly coming to the fore in urban development in Europe. This is also about re-evaluating technical and economic approaches and focusing on sustainable forms of coexistence, as becomes clear in the concept of “exchange logic-free”. This collective emphasizes that give and take should be characterized by trust and cooperation - not a question of money.
The Wandelwerkstatt and its projects not only invite you to get involved, but are also a call to actively shape your own society and work on a social-ecological transformation. Ultimately, issues such as climate justice are at the top of the agenda and require creative solutions and committed citizens.
