A new security project is causing a stir in Nachrodt-Wiblingwerde. On June 20, 2025, the first of several special plastic figures, the so-called Streetbuddies, were set up to alert drivers to children playing in traffic. These bright warning figures not only symbolize a clear appeal to be careful, but also help to increase road safety for the little ones. How Radiomk reports, the Streetbuddys on Ehrenmalstrasse near the elementary school and a playground have a clear goal: to promote children and their safety in road traffic.

The Streetbuddies, which reach a height of 83 cm, are not only colorfully designed, but also equipped with reflective foil to be more visible in the dark. The base is sturdy because it can be filled with water or sand, and each figure has a lock to prevent theft.[ Street buddy ]

Planned locations expand the project

These first figures are just the beginning. Further locations are already being planned in the Langenstück factory estate, including at the elementary school, at the playground and at the youth center in Wiblingwerde. In addition, a figure will be placed on Bachstrasse near the kindergarten. Local council member Aykut Aggül calls on citizens to report other suitable locations for setting up the Streetbuddies. The project was partially financed through donations, which shows that the community is behind this initiative.

As far as the number of road accidents involving children is concerned, the situation is alarming. In 2023, over 27,000 children had accidents in traffic in Germany, with 44 dying tragically. These different approaches aim to increase mindfulness on the road and raise awareness of the dangers that exist, especially for the youngest road users.
