Caritas cinema: Experience films about escape and diversity in Mettmann!

The “Caritas Cinema of Diversity” is picking up speed this fall and winter of 2023 and invites all cinema enthusiasts to engage with important social issues in film. Organized by the Caritas Association for the Mettmann district, the series is part of the broader campaign “diversity. worth a lot” and will take place on several dates. The premiere will take place on September 23, 2023 at the Studio Cinema in Ratingen with the drama “Ellbogen” by Fatma Aydemir, which sheds light on the self-discovery of a 17-year-old German-Turkish girl in Berlin and Istanbul. For the first time, the audience is confronted with the facets of flight, migration and group-related misanthropy.

Again Lintorfer reports, the film tells of Hazal, who has to find her way in a society characterized by racism. In a dramatic twist, she flees the explosive situation to an acquaintance in Turkey, sketching out tense conditions and the challenges faced by migrants. The film starts at 7:30 p.m. and participation is free, although registration is required.

A look at the other films

The “Caritas Cinema of Diversity” continues on October 14th, 2023 with the film “Je Suis Karl” in the Weltspiegel cinema in Mettmann and on November 4th with “Moria Six”, which also focuses on the topics of racism and migration. On November 5th, the film “Green Border” is on the program, which addresses the dramatic origin stories of current refugee movements. This film is inspired by real events on the border between Poland and Belarus and shows the terrible experiences of refugees from Syria, Afghanistan and African countries. This performance also starts at 7:30 p.m.

Participation in these film screenings is also free of charge, but those interested must register in good time by emailing Caritas: variety@caritas-mettmann.de. The deadline for registration for the film “Elbow” is September 22, 2023, while the deadline for “Green Border” is November 4, he said Erkrath.

The importance of diversity and social issues

The topics of migration and social inequality are not new and are constantly discussed in academic discussions. Courses are offered at universities that deal with escape, mobility and social structures. The focus is on how discrimination and belonging shape the realities of people's lives. As the PH Freiburg shows, many researches and seminars with a focus on the connection between migration and social inequality are certainly relevant for understanding today's discourses.

Cinema is more than just entertainment; it is a medium that educates, raises awareness and stimulates thought. At the “Caritas Cinema of Diversity” events, it becomes clear how important it is to come to terms with one’s own identity and the differences in our society. So it's obvious: this isn't just a film being shown, but a platform for discussion and understanding.
