Remembrance Day in Mettmann: Silent march and ceremonial honor on November 16th

Remembrance Day is always a special event in Mettmann that puts memories and values in the spotlight. This year the 80th public ceremony will be celebrated on Sunday, November 16th. The memorial event is organized by the German War Graves Commission, Mettmann local association. Preparations are already in full swing and the anticipation is palpable.

There is a clear schedule for all those who would like to take part in the silent march. The meeting point is at 11:15 a.m. on Beckershoffstrasse. The march then takes a contemplative route to the cemetery on Goethestrasse and finally ends in the chapel. The ceremony itself begins at 11:30 a.m. and a wreath-laying ceremony will take place at the monument at around 12:15 p.m. This festive part of the commemoration is designed with a special focus on the past and lessons of war.

A warning remembrance

Particular attention is paid to the memorial hour of the Metzkausen Citizens' Association, which also takes place on Remembrance Day. This takes place at the Wilhelmshöhe Memorial and starts at 10 a.m. Among others, the new district administrator Bettina Warnecke is expected here, who will give speeches together with students from the Heinrich-Heine-Gymnasium.

An important note for participants: Due to a major construction site on Goethestrasse, the main entrance to the cemetery is not accessible. Instead, access is via a side entrance on Goethestraße, which leads to the Speck Friedhofsgärtnerei, as well as via the entrances on Friedhofstrasse and Nordstraße. It is advisable to get your bearings in good time to ensure everything runs smoothly.

In Mettmann we are experiencing a day of national mourning that not only invites us to pause, but also to reflect on our values. The organization and variety of speeches give the event an additional, valuable framework that keeps memories alive and stimulates reflection.

A day awaits us that should encourage us to consider the important issues of our past while at the same time turning our attention to the future. Let us accompany this important event with respect and gratitude.
