Diakonie Mönchengladbach donates laptops for children in need!
A remarkable step towards educational equality was taken today in Mönchengladbach. The Diakonie Mönchengladbach has made a generous donation of functional laptops to the Peace Village Campaign – Children in Need hand over. These laptops are to be used as part of the INUA project in the Mathare slum in Kenya, a place where around 70 children and young people have the opportunity to do their school work and learn how to use PCs every day.
The background to this donation is not only the urgent need for technical equipment for disadvantaged children, but also the Diakonie's sustainable commitment. For years it has pursued the goal of reusing resources sensibly and strengthening social projects. Michael Meuser, treasurer of Aktion Friedensdorf, emphasized how important this support is for promoting education and what opportunities it opens up for children's social advancement.
A look at the INUA project
The INUA project, which is managed by Aktion Friedensdorf, aims to give disadvantaged children and young people in one of Nairobi's largest slums access to education and digital learning opportunities. “Education is the key to a better future,” emphasizes Meuser, adding that the laptops will be passed on to the project after a thorough data deletion and technical inspection. Having access to a reference library makes learning much easier for children.
Aktion Friedensdorf has been active in Latin America and Africa for 56 years and is involved in around 20 children's aid projects in seven countries. The organization focuses on education, healthcare and supporting children with disabilities. The support is provided on a voluntary basis and is based on the principle of helping people help themselves.
Community involvement and honoring volunteer work
In June 2023, an impressive review of the voluntary work was given at the anniversary celebration of the One World Information Center (EWIZ). Mayor Felix Heinrichs praised the tireless work of the EWIZ, which acts as the sponsor of the Friedensdorf campaign. He encouraged everyone in attendance to continue their commitment to global justice and education.
The large number of participants in these events shows that the topic of education is generating great interest locally and that more and more people are supporting the interests of disadvantaged children. Information about the various projects and other support offers can be found on the website Peace Village Campaign available. For example, this Opportunity Foundation, which offers various learning studios in North Rhine-Westphalia, is another example of the opportunity to become active.
The diaconal support and the donation to Aktion Friedensdorf are a clear sign that the idea of global responsibility is firmly anchored locally and that new ways are being created to help children in need.
