Fire drama in Paderborn: Garage fire threatens buildings and cars!

On Monday night, around 2 a.m., the Paderborn fire department was called to Lahrkampstrasse in Paderborn-Sennelager for a midnight operation. The reason: A garbage can shelter was completely on fire and there was a risk that the fire would spread to a car parked next to it as well as to an apartment building and a garage complex. Fortunately, quick intervention by emergency services was able to prevent anything worse from happening. According to Bild.de, around 20 firefighters from the North Fire and Rescue Station and the Schloß Neuhaus volunteer unit were on duty.

Just when the fire brigade arrived, the garbage can shelter was already completely engulfed in flames. The emergency services used two C-jet pipes to fight the flames directly from the outside. At the same time, a team from the firefighting team checked the adjacent residential units for the spread of smoke and fire. A turntable ladder was also used to check the facade of the apartment building with a thermal camera for possible embers. These measures proved to be extremely successful: the spread of the fire to other buildings and vehicles was effectively stopped, also reports Presseportal.de.

Damage and duration of use

Despite the rapid intervention of the fire brigade, the incident was not without consequences. Parts of the house facade, an adjacent garage and a total of four cars were damaged, some of them significantly. The entire operation lasted around 1.5 hours and was accompanied by a fire engine, two turntable ladders and an ambulance. The operations management service was also on site to support coordination.

The police have now started investigating the cause of the fire. It remains to be seen what the investigations will reveal. Such operations also take a look at general fire statistics and safety in urban areas. According to the current CTIF report, surveys on fires worldwide show that many fires arise from easily preventable causes. Burn injuries and call-outs often increase in the summer months when we spend more time outdoors.

It's important to keep a close eye on potential fire hazards and act early to avoid damage. The incident in Paderborn reminds us how valuable the work of our fire department is and how important it is not to let up on safety.
