Fire brigade takes stock of Christmas: Dramatic fires in Grullbad!
The Recklinghausen fire department had a lot to do around the holidays. The first and second days of Christmas in particular were marked by a violent house fire in the Grullbad district, which put a lot of strain on the emergency services. As reported by lokalkompass.de, the fire department took stock of the operations around Christmas 2025.
On Christmas Eve, December 24th, several false alarms from fire alarm systems caused a stir. However, these turned out to be harmless, so the emergency services did not have to take any major measures. In this context, in addition to the full-time security guard, various volunteer units were also deployed in the South, East and Suderwich districts.
Devastating fire on the holidays
Christmas Day, December 25th, brought the first serious challenge: at 4:23 p.m. the fire department was called to Farnstrasse, where an apartment on the second floor of an apartment building was fully ablaze. The flames hit the back of the building strongly and even spread to the first floor. Fortunately, no residents were present, so there were no injuries. Fighting the fire was still difficult, as the construction of the old building with wooden false ceilings made extinguishing work difficult. Various respiratory protection teams were deployed, and the fire service was only ended around 8:00 p.m.
On Boxing Day, December 26th, another operation followed at 7:15 a.m. to the same address. Embers in the false ceilings had to be searched for and extinguished. The construction consultant from the Technical Relief Agency (THW) identified an acute danger of collapse, which meant that Farnstrasse in front of the fire object was completely closed. The THW even set up a protective tunnel for the residents of the neighboring house. The operation lasted until 3:00 p.m. before the site was handed over to the city's Department 63 - Building Regulations and further information about the cause of the fire and the damage is still being investigated.
Overview of further operations
On the following days, especially on December 27th and 28th, the fire brigades continued to be called upon. According to kreis-re.de, there were several operations on December 27th: among other things, due to small fires, traces of oil and animal capture operations. A house fire in Haltern am See on the morning of December 27th also posed a challenge.
The fire department also recorded a number of operations on December 28th, ranging from unclear smoke development in Gladbeck to various alarms from fire alarm systems in other cities in the area. These operations demonstrate the important role of the fire department in the region and its willingness to ensure the safety of citizens even on public holidays.
Overall, the 2025 Christmas season was a stressful but at the same time successful time for the Recklinghausen fire department, which prevented anything worse from happening through their quick action. More information about the situation and future developments will be provided by the city's building code. At this point it is also important to say a big thank you to the emergency services who worked under often difficult conditions.
