It has been clear for some time that the capacity limits of a four-lane highway have long been exceeded. A planned expansion to six lanes is therefore planned in the coming years. The expansion of the A43 is part of a comprehensive strategy of the Ministry of Transport in North Rhine-Westphalia. As part of the Integrated Overall Transport Planning (IGVP), demand plans for individual motorized transport and local public transport are brought together.
