Unemployment in the Rhein-Erft district is falling slightly – what does that mean?

The labor market situation in the Rhein-Erft district changed slightly in October 2025. With 17,298 unemployed, there is a decrease of 121 people or 0.7 percent compared to September, but this represents an increase of 728 people compared to the previous year. The unemployment rate remains stable at 6.5 percent. These figures were published by ksta.de, with Ralf Holtkötter, the chairman of the board of the Brühl Employment Agency, commenting on the situation.

A look at the details shows that the autumn revival was only slight. Holtkötter noted that more people have transitioned from employment or training to unemployment. This is accompanied by a decline in newly reported jobs of around 15 percent compared to the previous month and the previous year. This development could indicate that companies are currently securing existing jobs instead of creating new ones.

Positive signals on the labor market

Despite these challenges, there are also bright spots. Holtkötter notes that admissions from training and various programs have increased, which shows that the job market remains in flux. A close link between qualification and employment is seen as the key to securing skilled workers and ensuring competitiveness for the future.

It remains to be hoped that the upcoming investments in further training will play a key role in the coming months. However, the challenges posed by economic headwinds should not be underestimated, so developments on the labor market should continue to be closely monitored.

These changes are of great importance for the people in the region. A stable job market has a positive effect on the quality of life and can help people better cope with the challenges of everyday life. So let's remain optimistic that the signals from the labor market will become more positive in the coming months.
