Construction of the new fire station in Brühl: start postponed, future uncertain!

In Brühl, construction work on the new fire and rescue station is a long time coming. The reason for this is unexpected problems during the civil engineering work, which is why the start of the shell construction, originally planned for spring, remains uncertain. In the worst case, the start could even be delayed until the beginning of next year. These delays are already impacting the project's overall schedule, but the city remains optimistic and expects completion by mid-2028 Radio Erft reported.

The current wait for construction is particularly problematic because the existing fire station on Rheinstrasse no longer meets the state government's current standards. An expert had already suggested moving the guard closer to the city center in order to optimize operational times. The existing site has proven unfeasible in providing the necessary assistance within eight minutes to any point in the city. The volunteer fire department has already noticed longer journey times to the old station. Brühl.de points out that alternative locations have been examined, but none of them ensure complete coverage of the urban area.

Keep an eye on finances

According to plans, the new fire station is to be built on a green area near the intersection of Römerstrasse and Liblarer Strasse and covers around 7,000 square meters. The city estimates the total cost of the project at around 18 million euros, with comparable fire stations in the region costing between 14 and 15 million euros. The remaining amount is earmarked for necessary infrastructure costs. Financial resources have already been planned in the city budget, although part of the costs may still have to be financed as no subsidies are expected from the state.

In order to get the construction site on the best track for the shell construction, the Europe-wide tender is currently underway. It is expected that the contract for the work can be awarded in early August. Despite the situation, those responsible ask the citizens for patience and are confident about the further progress of the project.

Safety in focus

The basic plans for the new fire station not only include the construction itself, but also essential aspects of fire protection. Various fire protection plans, such as escape and rescue plans and fire brigade plans, are of great importance. These plans ensure that everything runs smoothly in an emergency and that the fire department can act quickly and efficiently. The current standards, such as DIN 14095, provide the guidelines that must take all safety aspects into account during planning and execution.

Now the city of Brühl has to master the challenges in the construction process and not lose sight of the future of the fire department and thus the safety of its citizens. Let's hope that construction work will get back on track soon and that the new fire and rescue station will be a place that meets the demands of the modern city and its fire department.
