Generational competition inspires in Niederaussen: athletes in action!
On September 13, 2025, a very special event took place in the SV Erftstolz Niederaussem stadium: the generation competition, organized by ASG Elsdorf and DJK Novesia Neuss. This event brought young and old together to do sports and created an atmosphere that was brimming with enthusiasm. Whether it was the young participant or the experienced athlete – everyone enjoyed the disciplines.
Teams from the region, including Louis Bütow with Simone Zolper and Israa El-Hajjami with Marco Mock, competed against each other in various competitions. Unfortunately one team had to cancel due to illness, but that didn't stop the fun. The disciplines on offer ranged from ball throwing and long jump to running competitions, which varied between 30 and 100 meters depending on the age group.
Speed and team spirit
The highlight of the competition was the exciting 2 x 400 meter relay, which had the spectators excited. The best performances were duly rewarded, and all participants did not go home empty-handed - small presents made their faces smile. The event was a complete success and consolidated the sense of community and enthusiasm for exercise. Rhenish advertising papers reports that organizers are already eyeing a repeat event next year.
Such a competition is also an excellent opportunity to promote talent. An example of this is Sebastian Bodewig from ASG Elsdorf, who ran the 400 meters for the first time in the U18 class at a sports festival in Oedt on June 19, 2024. His time of 61.30 seconds impressed not only the spectators, but also his coaches, who recognized his performance with respect. The competition will become an important showcase for young talent and gives hope that many such events will continue to be held in the future to support young sports talent. ASG Elsdorf highlights these positive developments.
Ideas for the future
The preparations for such sports and games festivals can be pleasantly supported by various assistance. There are websites that offer useful information about sports and game ideas. For example, the State Sports Association of North Rhine-Westphalia has put together an online sports file with over 1,900 exercises and games. Such offers could not only serve as inspiration, but also as a supplement to events such as the generation competition and offer participants a varied experience. VIBSS explains that non-sporting activities can also offer added value for sports festivals. Whether for children, young people or adults – the ideas are diverse.
Overall, the generational competition impressively shows how sport can bring people of different ages together. The long tradition of such collaborative ventures is obvious and it is to be hoped that the enthusiasm of the participants and the organizers will lead to many more events.
