Bird flu in Hürth: Strict measures decided for poultry farmers!
A worrying incident is currently causing a stir in Hürth: suspicion of bird flu was confirmed at Gertrudenhof. Like that Radio Erft reports that the Friedrich Loeffler Institute has detected the dangerous H5N1 virus. As a result, the Rhein-Erft district has decided on immediate protective measures that will come into force on the night of Tuesday, November 11th.
An important part of these measures are two zones around the affected farm: a surveillance zone with a radius of 10 km and a stricter protection zone with a radius of 3.1 km. Strict regulations apply in these zones, which are a direct response to the threat. Poultry may not be transported; the animals must remain in the stables and must not have any contact with wild birds. Owners are called upon to monitor their animals closely and to adhere to stricter hygiene rules.
Protective measures and information
Additional measures must be observed, particularly in the protection zone, which include, among other things, disinfection requirements. The Rhein-Erft district has provided maps and information about the new exclusion zones on its website for the population. However, according to initial information, there is currently no danger to humans and commercial poultry products remain safe to consume.
There are also important tips for dealing with wild birds. Dead birds should not be touched. A report is only required if several animals are affected. Sick wild birds are not allowed to be taken to animal shelters and the relevant authorities ask for vigilance and respect for the new rules.
The situation shows that protecting our poultry flocks and public health is a top priority, especially at times when such viruses can spread quickly. So stick to the guidelines and let's hope that the situation will be under control again soon. Let’s stay vigilant and protect what we hold dear!
