Warm farewell: Michael Herms is leaving TuS Jahn Soest after 17 years

A bittersweet farewell recently reached the football community in Soest. Michael Herms, who worked as a trainer and supervisor at TuS Jahn Soest for over 17 years, is leaving the club to move back to the Black Forest “for new love”. His last official appearance took place as part of a farewell game against Sportfreunde Soest, which was also celebrated as the first farewell party. This event was celebrated in the sports center in Borgeln with many friends, companions and footballers from the region. The farewell was marked by warm words and an emotional look back at the past few years, as soester-anzeiger.de reports.

The captain of the first team, Ainkaran Krishnapillai, emphasized in his sincere praise the great commitment of Herms, who worked for the club with a lot of passion. Herms took his first step at TuS over 17 years ago when he initially acted as a holiday replacement for his son's mini-football team. After a few weeks he took over the coaching role and turned out to be a defining figure in the club. After some health setbacks, including a heart attack in 2018, he reduced his commitments but remained active as a first-team coach.

A club in transition

The emotional moments surrounding Herms' farewell were accompanied by a historic ceremony: On September 26, 2025, TuS Jahn Soest said goodbye to its over 100-year-old sports field on Werkstrasse. This location has been the club's sporting home since its inauguration in 1928. At the celebration, which was attended by around 200 people, the members were able to enjoy one last sausage for a symbolic euro, while the younger guests enjoyed a bouncy castle. These celebrations, organized by tusjahnsoest.de, represented a significant moment in the club's history and marked the transition to a new location in the north of Soest.

Roland Niestroj, the chairman of the board, gave a touching speech and paid tribute to the history of the association and the large community that has gathered around it. Looking back was not only a farewell to a place, but also a celebration of tradition. Even though the evening ended with a few drops of rain, those present said it represented a symbolic conclusion.

Hope for the future

Michael Herms was optimistic and would like his younger son Tim to follow in his footsteps at the club and take on the tasks in club life. He also plans to remain part of the club family and take part in future events, such as the 100th anniversary of TuS and the inauguration of the new sports field. For Herms, who has earned a permanent place in the hearts of the members, TuS Jahn Soest remains an important point of reference.

This is how an era ends not only for Herms, but also for TuS Jahn Soest. Characterized by commitment, community spirit and a tireless commitment to sporting development, this time will always live on in the memories of the club members. The signs are good that the club's tradition will be continued at the new location - with new faces, new challenges and perhaps the same old spirit. The future of TuS Jahn Soest is secured, even if Michael Herms is now heading a little further south in Germany.
