Heat wave in NRW: How to protect yourself from the temperatures!

Temperatures are rising in Cologne today and citizens should prepare for a heat wave. How WDR reported, the forecasts are alarming: the temperatures announced for this week could exceed 35 degrees. Particularly vulnerable groups such as older people, small children and people with previous illnesses are at increased risk. The NRW Consumer Protection Ministry has therefore issued clear recommendations for action to prevent health problems.

The experts recommend avoiding outdoor activities during the hottest hours of the day, especially between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. It is advisable to find shady places, drink plenty of water and stay as cool as possible. Such measures are important not only to reduce individual heat stress, but also to take the risk of heat-related illnesses seriously.

Heat warning and its meaning

The heat warning is part of a comprehensive heat action plan that was developed by the Federal Environment Agency in 2017. These measures are loud Federal Environment Agency Recognized nationwide and rated as helpful. The aim is to minimize the impact of heat waves on the health of the population. A comprehensive study evaluated the effectiveness of these recommendations and emphasized the importance of understanding heat-related health risks.

The study is based on a nationwide online survey and interview analysis with authorities to identify existing support for climate adaptation services. An assessment of the previous measures to reduce heat-related health risks was also carried out. The results are clear: There is still room for improvement in the implementation of such protective measures to protect against the growing threat of climate change.

Current events in Cologne

But it's not just the heat that's making headlines. A major rescue operation was recently required in Cologne when over 200 people had to be rescued from an ICE train. The train hit a tree branch and was unable to continue for more than five hours. This shows how important effective emergency plans are not only during heat waves, but also in other critical situations.

Again and again we come across strange news that is discussed in the media. So the question arises: kebab or not kebab? According to the NRW Consumer Protection Ministry, one in three kebabs in North Rhine-Westphalia cannot be described as such, but rather as a rotisserie. Who would have thought that there was so much to consider even when it comes to kebab? This discussion shows us that food is not only a matter of taste, but also of the correct name.

Given all of these issues, it is important to remain vigilant and stay informed about developments in both health and food. So stay informed and take care of yourself and others as this heat wave rolls over us!
