Unknown perpetrators broke a window and pried open another to get inside. Tools and a small amount of cash were stolen. The rise in crime

A worrying phenomenon that has been observed in recent years is the increase in burglaries, particularly in urban areas. According to Statista, there were around 119,000 residential burglaries in Germany in 2023. This represents an increase compared to previous years, although the number was reduced by more than 50% compared to 2015. The highest number of burglaries was recorded in Mülheim an der Ruhr with 283 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, while Fürth has the lowest rate with only 33 cases, as statista.com shows.

The psychological consequences for the victims should not be underestimated. A break-in often leads to a massive loss of sense of security and can also result in long-term psychological stress. Police record a 14.9% clearance rate for residential burglaries, increasing pressure on law enforcement to stop this worrying trend.
