Children's University on October 31st: Bits, messages and Halloween fun!
On Friday, October 31, 2025, an exciting event will take place at the Theodor Fleitmann Comprehensive School in Schwerte that will inspire young minds. As part of the children's university, all girls and boys between the ages of 8 and 12 are invited to delve deeper into the topic of data transfer between computers and smartphones. The speaker, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Jan Richling from the South Westphalia University of Applied Sciences will explain in an entertaining and educational way how communication between machines works - using bits and characters of computer language. Particularly attractive: the children have the opportunity to decipher a message from light signals.
The children's university starts at 5 p.m. and participation is completely free. The registration process is straightforward: those interested can register online via www.united.nrw, register by phone at 0 23 03 27 – 49 40 or by email at martina.bier@kreis-unna.de. A special highlight this year: The little participants are invited to appear in their Halloween costumes!
A look at the children's university
Events like these are part of a long-standing tradition of children's universities that take place not only in Schwerte, but also in other places such as Leipzig. Such programs are not only aimed at children with a thirst for knowledge, but also offer an excellent opportunity to support gifted and gifted students. Loud University of Leipzig Participation in the lectures is free of charge and requires registration, which begins approximately three weeks before the events.
The event formats are designed to provide additional incentive, especially for children who do not receive sufficient support at school. Scientific topics are presented in an appealing and didactically prepared way so that the children can actively think and experience them. A personal student ID card will be created, which not only entitles you to participate, but can also be used for a mini bachelor's certificate if the children have attended several events.
The concept of children's universities
A central element of children's universities is direct contact with scientists. This form of learning promotes curiosity and allows children to ask questions and engage with the topics. Therefore, events like those in Schwerte are not only a great opportunity to gain new knowledge, but also a platform for creative engagement with exciting content. How Learning information portal Hamburg emphasizes, such formats are particularly valuable for children who strive to deepen their interests beyond the regular school offerings.
Whether in person or digitally, the children's university programs offer flexible and attractive opportunities for inquisitive children and support them on their path to developing their talents. Be it in Schwerte or elsewhere – the offer is clear: valuable knowledge is available here for all young explorers!
