Unna: City remains silent about costs for maintaining the Mille Fiori garden!

In Unna there is currently movement around the former “Mille Fiori” garden on Schulstrasse. The Werner district town, a small pearl in the countryside, is facing a change. After the Handicap e.V. club left the care of the garden, the city companies took over responsibility. Mayor Dirk Wigant (CDU) announced this in a recent announcement. But simple weekly measures such as picking up rubbish and watering are not enough - the city plans to commission external services for sustainable maintenance, such as Panoramic view of Unna reported.

The decision to stop caring for the garden did not come without regret. Both the Club Handicap e.V. and the city were forced to mutually end the collaboration after it became clear that the hoped-for integration of the therapeutic work into the garden could not be implemented as desired. Vandalism and leaving trash made it difficult for clients to motivate themselves, according to a report from Press service emerges.

Where is Mille Fiori heading?

The Mille Fiori garden will be part of the planned redesign of the real-world laboratory in the newly named “Minette-Pötter-Park”, for which a budget of 850,000 euros has been planned. While some details about the future design are still vague, city spokeswoman Anna Gemünd has already confirmed that an agency will be entrusted with the care. This is intended to take on “small services of various kinds”. But there is a catch here: the city of Unna is keeping a low profile when it comes to the exact costs and extent of external care. The city only responded briefly to questions from the editorial team and continued to refuse to share specific information.

The security service has now responded to better monitor the area. Based on information from Club Handicap e.V., this area was placed under permanent control and the police have also been informed.

In retrospect, Markus Bast, the administrative manager of the Handicap e.V. club, expresses regret about the failed concept idea. Mayor Wigant agreed with this regret and thanked him warmly for the tireless efforts of the association, which took over the care in autumn 2023.

The challenge for the city of Unna remains to preserve the character of the former garden and at the same time to further develop it. The path is still unclear, but one thing is clear: Something is happening!
