What a day in Brüggen! On August 14, 2025, the atmosphere was great when the winners of the Lower Rhine Cycling Experience Day ceremoniously accepted their prizes. Ursula von den Bruck, who went on a bike tour with her partner to Kempen, St. Tönis and back to Oedt, won the big prize: she won the high-quality touring bike, donated by Radsport Claaßen in Kempen. Local click reports that it took her around two hours to complete her circuit and took home first prize.

Herbert Linges, on the other hand, who cycled a 30-kilometer route to Brüggen with his wife Anita, was happy to receive a hotel voucher worth 250 euros, which he won as second prize. Linges, who took part in the popular cycling event on July 6th, answered two questions correctly at different information points and was therefore rewarded.

A festival for cycling lovers

The Lower Rhine Cycling Adventure Day, which took place on July 6, 2025 and was organized by Niederrhein Tourismus GmbH, attracted thousands of people. With the support of the savings banks and NEW, 56 municipalities from Germany and the Netherlands offered almost 100 route suggestions. There was something for every age and experience level, from recreational cyclists to those with sporting ambitions. There were also attractive supporting programs, street festivals and many events at pleasure and adventure stations along the routes. Lower Rhine Tourism highlights that participants also had the chance to win other great prizes through an online competition.

The competition began on June 23, 2025 and allowed registration both online and on site. In addition to the main prize, a top-class bike, a voucher worth 250 euros and a NiederrheinCard were also awarded. Brigitte Odinius presented Ursula von den Bruck with the touring bike, while Nina Jörgens from Niederrhein Tourismus GmbH and Matthias Peters from NEW municipal management congratulated the lucky ones.

A look into the future

There is already some exciting news for 2024. The new concept for the cycling experience day will include digital route guidance with GPS download, which will make participation and registration much easier. The developments promise even better organization and a smoother process for all cyclists. All that's left to say is: save the date and be there again in 2024!

Another highlight that those interested in cycling should not miss is the cycling race “Around the Cathedral” on May 31, 2025. This event is aimed at cycling fans of all ages and offers a varied program, including junior classes and children’s races.
