Complete closure of the A43: traffic jam chaos is approaching due to bridge construction work!

Current developments on the NRW motorways: The A43 will be completely closed on the night of Tuesday, June 17th to Wednesday, June 18th. This measure affects both directions and applies from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. The reason for this is urgent bridge construction work at the Herne junction, which affects all lanes of the A43. This means that drivers have to use large-scale detours. The diversion routes lead via the A42, A45 and A2. Commuters in particular are affected by this closure, especially around Bochum, where additional inner-city diversions must be expected, especially to and from the A2 junction Recklinghausen-Süd, such as Ruhr24 reports.

Similar restrictions have already been imposed in recent weeks. The A43 was closed from May 9th to 12th due to bridge work at the Herne motorway junction. The next closures are expected in the coming weeks, as is a comprehensive expansion of the A43 between Recklinghausen and Bochum-Riemke, which should ensure that the motorway has six lanes in the future. A further closure of the A43 is expected from June 27th and will last until July 7th. Here, too, there will be a diversion via the A40 and A2, which will then be directed to the A45, as Der Westen informs.

Innovative construction methods for safe roads

The current construction work as part of the six-lane expansion of the A43 is part of a larger renovation offensive called “Road Infrastructure NRW”. The aim of this initiative is to significantly improve the condition of roads, bridges and tunnels in North Rhine-Westphalia that are in need of renovation over the next ten years. An important point of this offensive is the use of innovative rapid construction methods, which are intended to significantly shorten the planning and implementation of bridge construction projects. This year, a volume of 160 million euros will be invested in 51 bridge construction measures, emphasizes Umwelt NRW.

These measures are not only important for traffic. Transport Minister Oliver Krischer has emphasized the need to provide a functional infrastructure for both citizens and companies. The minister sees the challenge in Germany of overcoming the shortage of skilled workers and bureaucratic hurdles in order to be able to build faster and more efficiently. As part of the offensive, up to 400 bridges are to be renovated or newly built, with sustainable materials and modern construction methods also playing a role.
