Road safety: controls ensure more order!
Day of action in Warendorf on June 26, 2025 strengthens road safety for cyclists and e-scooter drivers. Results and new rules.

Road safety: controls ensure more order!
In times when mobility plays an increasingly important role in our everyday lives, road safety and compliant participation in road traffic are more important than ever. This was also visible at the recent day of action in the Warendorf district, where the police carried out extensive checks on these issues. There was no lack of commitment: on Thursday, June 26, 2025, a total of 293 road users were checked, including 87 cyclists and Pedelec riders as well as 110 e-scooter riders who were brought onto the road in order to increase road safety, such as radiowaf.de reports.
The results of the checks were alarming: 37 cyclists had to pay a warning fine, and 26 motor vehicle drivers were held responsible for violations against cyclists and e-scooter drivers. 12 e-scooter drivers also received penalties and 11 road users were banned from continuing their journey. In addition, 68 citizens received advice from an information stand in Sassenberg, despite adverse weather conditions.
New regulations for e-scooters from April 2025
From April 1, 2025, new rules for e-scooters will come into force, aiming to better integrate them into traffic and increase safety. E-scooters have been allowed on the streets in Germany since June 2019, but the new amendment to the Small Electric Vehicles Regulation brings with it some significant changes. Special green arrows for cyclists may also be used by e-scooters in the future. Another plus point: “Cycling free” signs are now also valid for e-scooters, unless there are special exceptions, as scooterhelden.de explains.
In the future, drivers will be allowed to drive next to each other as long as traffic is not obstructed. However, the fines for violations of these rules will be significantly increased, as bussgeldkatalog.org reports. Fines for driving on sidewalks or taking a second person with you increase from €15 to €55 or more. In addition, the obligation to have liability insurance remains, while there are no changes to the requirement to wear a helmet or the minimum age of 14 years. From 2027, indicators will also be required for newly registered e-scooters.
An appeal to all road users
Despite the new regulations and intensive controls, it is important that every road user does their part to ensure road safety. A proactive and considerate driving style can save lives. The controls in the Warendorf district have shown how important it is to comply with road traffic rules. This is the only way we can ensure that every journey, be it with an e-scooter, bike or car, remains accident-free.
Let's use the new rules as an opportunity to shape mobility responsibly and to positively influence the image of e-scooters. Together we can ensure that our roads become safer. And don't forget: The next inspection could come sooner than expected!
