Triathlon at Möhnesee: Elkmann and Korte inspire with top placings!
The triathlon scene was in top form at Möhnesee last weekend. Over 930 athletes took part in the competition and it was by no means a walk in the park. The Möhnesee Triathlon reported fully booked starting places and a waiting list of 200 people. This year, the new “Grand Prix” distance was offered for the first time, which was tough: 2.0 kilometers of swimming, 70 kilometers of cycling and 15 kilometers of running. A real highlight for the active!
Among the participants were the two local heroes Iris Elkmann and Andreas Korte, both from the Warendorfer SU tri-team. Elkmann can look back on an impressive performance. Despite challenging waves that didn't make swimming easy, she was the first woman to get out of the water. She also mastered the difficult bike route that led through the Arnsberg Forest with its many meters of altitude. Their running route took place over three laps of the Möhnesee, which were characterized by a steep climb. Finally, Elkmann reached the finish line in third place overall in a time of 4:06:28 hours and also secured victory in her age group 45.
Services that are convincing
Andreas Korte, who also started with good instincts, took 17th place overall. He took first place in his 45 age group with a strong time of 3:55:57 hours. Korte showed that the changes in training were also fruitful for him - after 40 minutes in the water, a bike ride of two hours and a run of 1:12 hours, his success was perfect.
Both athletes were more than satisfied with their performances. Iris Elkmann was also happy about her victory at the German Age Group Championships two weeks ago, where she gave the competition no chance in 2:25 hours with a distance of 1.5 kilometers of swimming, 38 kilometers of cycling and 10 kilometers of running. Training with more quick units turned out to be the right thing for her.
