Warendorf celebrates the Assumption of Mary: festive atmosphere despite construction sites!
Last weekend, the city of Warendorf celebrated a very special local festival in honor of the Assumption of Mary. Even though construction sites in the old town accompanied the event, the atmosphere was festive and inviting. Thousands of people pushed their way through the festively decorated city center, which was decorated with red lights and magnificent Marian arches.
It is particularly worth mentioning that due to the construction work, only eight of the traditional nine arches could be erected. In place of the missing arch, an illuminated Marian altar was placed at the Heumarkt. This gave the festival a dignified and contemplative setting that significantly contributed to the celebration of the Virgin Mary. The liturgical celebrations, which continued on Sunday with a city procession, were another highlight of the festival.
Fair and fireworks
Another point of fascination was the Ascension Fair on the Lohwall, which lasted until Tuesday. This fair attracted many visitors who enjoyed the various attractions. The crowning finale was an impressive fireworks display on Tuesday evening, which perfectly rounded off the festive atmosphere.
In the midst of this festive hustle and bustle, the city of Warendorf was once again able to present itself as a friendly and lively community that balances tradition and modernity. Despite the challenges posed by the construction sites, the joy of the visitors was evident and many stayed until the end to admire the spectacular lights in the sky.
The organizers are now already thinking about preparations for next year. It will be interesting to see how the local festival will be celebrated next year and what new ideas will be implemented. The enthusiasm for this tradition seems unbroken and will certainly continue to attract many people.
