New location in Moers: Psychosocial center opens its doors!
Something is happening in Moers: The Lower Rhine Psychosocial Center (PSZ) of the AWO Wesel district association has opened at a new location. Since June 14, 2025, the contact point for refugees has been in theHopfenstrasse 10-12to find. A move that not only brings with it a change of perspective, but also more space and improved networking opportunities.
During the opening speech by Olga Weinknecht, department head, the facility manager Asiye Koc emphasized how important short distances are for optimizing work. That's why people are happy about the Moers refugee advice center being located in the new building, which can now also be found on Hopfenstrasse.
Diverse offers for refugees
The PSZ supports refugees who often suffer from psychological stress or trauma. The therapists help with problems that are often caused by traumatic experiences such as torture or violence. The advice offered is completely independent, free, confidential and voluntary. The focus here is primarily on helping traumatized and mentally impaired people who find themselves in a stressful life situation.
The range of services extends from psychological counseling to crisis intervention to creative therapeutic approaches. A large pool of language agents ensures that even people with little knowledge of German receive the support they need. Contact is very easy: the phone numbers are:02841-1731374for the PSZ and02841-1731376for the refugee advice center.
Support in the asylum procedure
The refugee advice center itself offers comprehensive support for people without a secure residence status in North Rhine-Westphalia. One of the advisors' concerns is to clarify all questions relating to residence, asylum procedures, social law and family reunification. Here you are ideally positioned to accompany clients through the jungle of bureaucratic processes.
At the opening, Olga Weinknecht emphasized the importance of psychological help during the asylum procedure. This is particularly important because many refugees have already had a long and stressful journey, during which they often had traumatizing experiences.
The PSZ has been established in Moers for ten years now and is committed to the psychosocial stabilization of helpers. Many clients live not only in Moers, but also in the neighboring districts of Kleve, Viersen and Wesel as well as in Duisburg's districts on the left bank of the Rhine.
Here we not only provide relief for psychological problems, but also actively support integration through group and project work for target groups such as women or unaccompanied minor refugees. This structure is essential for successful cooperation with other help systems and authorities.
Overall, the move of the psychosocial center and the refugee advice center shows that the AWO team has a good hand when it comes to meeting the needs of refugees and supporting them in the best possible way.
