Florian Lipowitz: Tour debutant between excitement and relaxation!
In an exciting first half of the 112th Tour de France, 24-year-old Florian Lipowitz shows himself to be an up-and-coming cycling star. The German tour debutant speaks in the conference room in Toulouse on the first day of rest about the turbulent first ten days and the challenges that lie ahead for him. While he initially doubted himself, the young driver is now full of confidence and can enjoy the rest day, reports Radiowuppertal.
“It was exhausting,” said Lipowitz, who unexpectedly experienced the intense media interest and the great expectations of his fans. But after a strenuous start, he plans a relaxing training ride on his day off, followed by lunch with his parents and a well-deserved nap.
Under the shadow of experienced colleagues
Florian Lipowitz is part of the Red Bull team and can count not only on the support of team boss Ralph Denk, who describes his project as a “project close to his heart”, but also on the experienced Primoz Roglič. The Slovenian, who has won the Vuelta four times in the past, wants to be on the podium again in this tour. Lipowitz sees himself in the role of “noble helper”, which means he will mainly support Roglič and benefit from his experience. He emphasizes: “My goal is simply to come to Paris and learn from Roglič.”
Lipowitz is currently in eighth place in the overall standings, seven seconds ahead of his famous teammate Roglič and 3:34 minutes behind overall leader Ben Healy. Rolf Aldag, the team's sporting director, urges caution: "We don't want Lipowitz to react too quickly."
The coming challenges
The next stages in the Pyrenees and Alps are considered the heart of the tour. The first big challenge is the twelfth stage to Hautacam and an individual mountain time trial in Peyragudes. Lipowitz will play a crucial role here, supported by his teammate Aleksandr Vlasov, who already has two Tour appearances under his belt and finished fifth in 2022. Next to him, Jordi Meeus, the team's sprint specialist, provides additional dynamism on the track.
The 2025 Tour de France started on July 5th in Lille and will end on July 27th in Paris, under the famous Arc de Triomphe. The route promises a lot of excitement with significant climbs in the Pyrenees and Alps, such as the Col du Galibier and Mont Ventoux. Red Bull – BORA – hansgrohe has a promising newcomer in its ranks, Lipowitz, who wants to prove his talent.
