Opera house Zurich: The dead city unleashed dark relationships!

Opernhaus Zürich, Schweiz - On April 24, 2025, the opera "Die Die Die Die Die Die Die Die Die Die Die Die Die Die Die Die Die Die Tote Korngold celebrated its premiere at the Zurich Opera House directed by Dmitri Tcherniakov. This fascinating staging takes the audience on an emotional journey through the protagonist Paul's complex relationship structure. The opera, which was first premiered in 1920, is based on the novel "Bruges La Morte" by Georges Rothenbach, and deals with grief, obsession and dynamics of power.

Tcherniakov emphasizes the inner abysses of the characters, transfers the action from traditional dream history into a profound analysis of psychology and relationships. The backdrop is a clever mix of a floating old building and an empty rotating stage that replaces the city of Bruges with an abstract space. In many scenes, the insignificance of the external environment is emphasized, which focuses on Paul's obsessive memories of his late wife Marie.

a dramatic reinterpretation

In the prologue, it is clearly stated that Marie did not die a natural death. Rather, the staging shows how Paul's narcissistic behavior drives it into suicide. This urgent approach is supported by verses from Fjodor Dostojewski's narrative "The Gentle", which skillfully integrates Tcherniakov into the plot. The staging shows that Paul's search for a female reflection in Marietta, which resembles Marie, is tragic and threatening.

The relationship between Paul and Marietta is not romantically glorified, but is represented as brutal and conflicting. One of the highlights of the performance is the musical direction of Lorenzo Viotti, which conducts the orchestra with "sounding vehemence". The Philharmonia Zurich shows itself in shape, plays Korngold's sophisticated music with high precision and expressiveness.

strong artistic performances

Eric Cutler embodies the role of Paul confidently and convinces with a dark timbre that ideal fits the figure. Vida Miknevičiūtė represents Marietta as a multi -layered Bohemienne whose character is developing during the performance. Supporting roles are strongly occupied by Evelyn Herlitzius in the role of Brigitta and Björn citizens as Frank, which enriches the entire staging.

However, the performance is not staged without technical challenges. Initial disagreements between the orchestra and the singers were remedied during the evening, which led to an overall coherent experience. The staging addresses the questions about dream and delusion, but the bitter knowledge remains: Marie remains dead.

The next performance dates for "Die Dead Stadt" are scheduled for next May 2025 at the Zurich Opera House. This staging offers rich experience for lovers of opera -like complexity as well as for newcomers who want to get involved in the dramatic depths of this unique work.
