A very special event is coming up in the Alzey-Worms district: On the occasion of the 35th anniversary of the partnership with the Bautzen district, a delegation from Bautzen, led by District Administrator Udo Witschas and former District Administrator Michael Harig, has arrived for a visit. The program is jam-packed and begins with a city tour of Alzey, followed by a visit to the Alzey Museum, where the new stone hall is viewed. A trip to Fabian Kelly's magic vault in Ober-Flörsheim is also on the agenda. A highlight will be the festive anniversary evening at the Bernhard-Räder winery in Flomborn, where a document will be signed that confirms the partnership and determines the common will to continue the friendship. Another reason to be pleased is the development of Eli Lilly's new production facility in Alzey. After the groundbreaking ceremony on April 8, 2024, the earthworks have now been completed and the first concrete pillars have been placed. These will serve as a solid foundation for the modern facility, which is expected to go into operation in 2027. The total cost of the project is around 2.3 billion euros and around 1,000 new jobs are expected. Company spokeswoman Katja Preugschat emphasizes that the schedule is being adhered to as planned and that changes in the political landscape, such as the trade dispute under US President Trump, had no influence on the investment decision. Infrastructure and further developments
In order to improve the connection to Eli Lilly, a new roundabout was built between Alzey and Schafhausen, which resulted in temporary closures of the country road. This measure not only ensures better accessibility to the production facility, but also attracts interest from other investors. The city of Alzey is already having discussions about setting up a new food retail store and a hotel chain. Lufthansa Technik has also completed a new logistics center nearby, which is further boosting the region's economic dynamism.
