Clean air for Alzey-Worms: Heating correctly with wood” campaign starts!

It's getting hot in the Alzey-Worms district! A new campaign called “Heating Correctly with Wood” aims to noticeably improve air quality in the region. It starts today, October 28, 2025, and is primarily intended to help reduce local air pollution through more efficient use of wood stoves. To achieve this, homeowners and renters with wood stoves or fireplaces receive a free voucher for the online training platform Ofenakademie.de. There they can gain practical knowledge on how to operate their ovens in a more environmentally friendly way.

Climate manager Khaled Al-Baadani explained the powerful benefits. By operating wood stoves correctly, fine dust pollution can be reduced by a whopping 50 percent. CO₂ emissions can also be reduced by up to 35 percent. In addition, the amount of organic pollutants is reduced by half, which is a real benefit for the air you breathe. Fuel consumption can also be reduced by a third - heating makes twice as much sense! The online course “Oven Driver’s License” lasts around 90 minutes and can be started, interrupted and continued later flexibly via the platform. However, those interested should hurry up because the vouchers are limited.

The benefits of wood heating in focus

Wood heaters not only have advantages for air quality, but also for your wallet. If you know how to use your wood stove effectively, you can not only help improve the environment, but also reduce your heating costs to a minimum. The initiative could represent an important step towards cleaner air in the region.

What makes wood heaters so popular? The natural material wood is an easily accessible and renewable fuel in many regions. If you use it wisely, it can also be used in a CO₂-neutral way. Things are also getting exciting when it comes to resource management: In Brazil, for example, the Centro de Inovação e Bioeconomia de Belém (CIBB) is pursuing similar approaches to convert biodiversity into sustainable development models. The aim is to create a value-adding bioeconomy that aims to score points with innovative solutions. Such developments show how important it is to use natural resources responsibly while taking social and technological aspects into account. As a model project in Brazil, this could also serve as an example of efficient use of resources in this country.

No matter how you look at it, the new campaign in the Alzey-Worms district lays a crucial building block to significantly improve local air quality. Anyone who now operates a wood stove should not waste any time and quickly register for the online course. Together we can work towards a cleaner future!
