Bad Dürkheim will award top athletes of the year 2024 at a celebratory ceremony
On November 7th, 2025, an honors evening took place in the large council chamber of the city of Bad Dürkheim, which was all about sport. Outstanding sporting achievements in 2024 were honored in a festive setting. Mayor Natalie Bauernschmitt and Head of Social Affairs Angela Strobel welcomed the numerous people present and ended the evening with the musical sounds of the “Rock Duo” from the Bad Dürkheim Music School. This celebratory setting, together with an impressive performance by the rhythmic dance gymnastics group of the Dürkheim gymnastics club, gave the event a special accent. The event built on the unifying power of sport, which Angela Strobel emphasized in her speech, by giving special space to the role models of athletes.
The awards included various categories, with young people as well as seniors and active participants being recognized for their achievements. The medals and certificates that were awarded that evening not only represent personal successes, but also the tireless commitment of the athletes and their clubs.
Honors for youth athletes
The performance of the young athletes visibly impressed the audience. Among others, Luis Brunner de Sousa, Vincent Rui and Robert Nieuwoudt from the Bad Dürkheim judo club were honored for their outstanding placements at the championships. Robert Nieuwoudt was able to look forward to several Palatinate championship titles and good placings at southwest German championships. Particularly noteworthy was Leonie Nieuwoudt and Tim Guhl's first place in their weight classes at the Palatinate Judo Individual Championship 2024. Young athletes from the Bad Dürkheim athletics and gymnastics club were also honored, including Ronja Wulfert, Lotta Knödel and Maike Knebel, who all contributed their part to the positive outcome.
Honors for senior athletes
The achievements of the seniors were also recognized during the awards. Alexander Palnik from the First Rifle Society of 1553 Fürst zu Leiningen received an award for his second place at the German Championships. Astrid Wulfert from LTV Bad Dürkheim was honored for her Palatinate championship title in the 80 meter hurdles. The rhythmic dance gymnastics of the Dürkheim 1860 e.V. gymnastics club provided an entertaining performance that rounded off the festivities.
Another highlight of the event was the bronze and silver sports medal awards. Thomas Sillmann from the First Rifle Society received the bronze medal for his national championship title with the bare bow. Constanze Frank, Nadine Domanska, Marius Jamin and Frank Ziehl, who all took top places at the German championships, were happy about the silver sports medal. Anne Slosharek from Team Pfälzer Land e.V. was honored for her achievements in track cycling, while Annette Nagel from TV Bad Dürkheim 1860 e.V. was honored for her ten-year commitment as a board member.
The gold sports medal and special honors
The crowning conclusion was the awarding of the golden Bad Dürkheim sports medal to the married couple Elke and Ulrich Bröckel from the Dürkheim Judo Association in 1959 for their national and international successes, including at the Kata World Championships in Las Vegas. In addition, Frank Coltan-Wagner was honored by the Erste Schützengesellschaft for his international successes.
These honors not only show the appreciation for the athletes, but are also a valuable motivation for everyone involved in organized sports. In this context, the state sports association has emphasized that such awards are crucial for the loyalty and appreciation of volunteers and those who are committed to volunteer work. They promote community and act as an incentive to continue to get involved in sports development in the future, which benefits the entire sporting life. [rheinpfalz.de].
