Schleusingen celebrates 30 years of the rehabilitation center: hope for people with disabilities

Over the last 30 years, Schleusingen has become a place of hope and support for people with disabilities. The rehabilitation center plays an essential role in integration and offers numerous services for people who need help. The tenth anniversary of the “Haus Bienenkorb” children’s home was recently celebrated. This home is aimed at children and young people with intellectual disabilities who cannot live with their families due to their special needs or who are looking for a more independent form of living. The “Haus Bienenkorb” offers space for 24 children and young people who live in four residential groups. Each group is designed to offer both private retreats and communal lounges. The roots of the rehabilitation center go back to the reunification period. Even back then, there were visions of rethinking the care of people with intellectual disabilities and creating an environment that enables comprehensive participation. In his remarks, the foundation's board member Kai Michaelis recalled that he did not personally experience the beginnings. Nevertheless, it is clear that the development in Schleusingen has opened up a new perspective on the integration and support of people with disabilities.

The concept of integration assistance and the participation services are fundamental components of this work.
