Landrath and mayor demand: Mainz-Mombach departure must open again!

Traffic in the Mainz-Bingen region is currently the focus. The demand for the Mainz-Mombach exit on the A643 to be reopened is coming to a head. The District Councilor of Mainz-Bingen, Thomas Barth, and the Mayor of Mainz, Nino Haase, have jointly addressed the Rhineland-Palatinate Transport Minister Daniela Schmitt. In an official letter, they ask for a re-examination of the possibilities for using the exit ramp, which has been closed to all traffic since the beginning of October. The closure affects access from the Schiersteiner Bridge when coming from Wiesbaden. Barth and Haase point out that not all road users should suffer from the behavior of individual truck drivers and question the impact of specific behavior.

Ingelheim provided information about the current developments. The reasons for the restrictions are known, but the traffic routing must be usable for everyone.

Investments in infrastructure

The federal government has also set out to improve transport structures in Germany. There are massive investments in roads, bridges and railway systems that are intended to guarantee a functioning infrastructure. The federal budget and an additional special fund have earmarked a total of 169 billion euros for transport projects by 2029. In 2026, over 33 billion euros are earmarked for rail, roads and waterways, representing a significant increase of over 25 percent compared to 2024.

The funds will be used to renovate bridges and tunnels and modernize existing roads and railways. A clear focus is on efficient and reliable rail transport. Chancellor Friedrich Merz emphasizes that everything that is ready for construction will be built, which increases the anticipation of the imminent implementation of new infrastructure projects.

A look at regional art history

The diversity of the Gothic style, which appears differently in different regions, is remarkable. From the strict lines of the French Gothic to the Flemish and English variants, numerous color shades and building forms were created that still have their impact today.

In summary, it can be said that both transport infrastructure and cultural aspects such as art history are an essential part of the identity of the Mainz-Bingen region. In addition to the current demands to reopen the A643, citizens have the right to a functioning public infrastructure, which the federal government is working hard on.
