Using simple games to promote language skills: Tips for parents in Löf!

A special information event recently took place in Löf as part of the parents' meeting, which dealt with the language support of small children. The Early Help Center of the Mayen-Koblenz district invited speech therapist Anne Kastor to provide information about the importance of language support in the first years of life. Kastor emphasized that language acquisition for children is based on numerous sensory experiences and that parents play a crucial role in this. “Children learn best through speaking and enjoying exchanges,” says the expert. Radio plays, rhymes and finger games are great ways to support language development in a playful way and to motivate children to listen and repeat.

Another central theme of the event was promoting vocabulary. Age-appropriate picture books and adults making up stories can provide valuable inspiration here. Everyday situations such as eating and playing are ideal for accompanying children's actions with language. Kastor encouraged parents to actively interact with their little ones and create environments that promote language. Loud Education world Good language development is crucial for children's social, emotional and cognitive development. Children learn by listening, imitating and interacting with their environment and are heavily dependent on their parents, who act as their first language role models.

The importance of dialogue

The event took place in the side room of the Sonnenringhalle in Löf and is aimed at (expectant) parents with children aged 0 to 3 years. These open meetings not only provide information, but also a space for exchange between parents. Lisa Heidger and Christa Fröhlich from the Early Help Center warmly thanked Anne Kastor for her insightful contributions. “The parent offer takes place every two weeks on Tuesdays from 9:15 a.m. to 10:45 a.m.,” said Heidger, making it clear how important this type of encounter is for families.

The tips for language development that Kastor gave the parents couldn't be simpler or more practical. This includes regular conversations with the children, speaking slowly and clearly, and reading stories together. Incorporating songs and rhymes can also strengthen little ones' sense of language. It is particularly important that parents create an environment that promotes language and avoid excessive media consumption. “If children start speaking late, it is advisable to talk to a pediatrician or a speech therapist,” adds Education world.

The Early Help Center, which is largely financed by the Mayen-Koblenz district, offers on its website: www.fruehehilfen-myk.de numerous materials and information to support language development. The event once again showed that early and active language support is the key to children's healthy development.
