On November 10, 2025, a new schoolyard was inaugurated in Breitscheid, which inspires both children and the entire community. The inauguration was ceremoniously led by the local mayor Rita Viccari, with numerous guests, representatives of the parents' committee, the local council and also the planning office Nico Siebke from Hollig in attendance. This new schoolyard is not only a place to play, but also a retreat for the students.
The redesign of the schoolyard was initiated around three years ago. The children's anticipation was clearly noticeable when they discovered the new bouldering wall, which is one of the highlights of the area. In addition, a motor skills climbing frame is particularly inviting for active play. The new planting of trees also creates a friendly atmosphere that brings fresh air and nature into the children's playtimes.
A place for play and joy
The new schoolyard offers a balanced mix of play and exercise opportunities, which makes it attractive for the students of the Breitscheider school. The children now have a place to retreat to that also promotes their motor skills. The positive response from the school family – from teachers to parents to students – is a good sign for the future.
