Neuwied gets a new post hub: Sustainability meets modernity!
A fresh wind is blowing through Neuwied! Today a new Deutsche Post delivery base was ceremoniously inaugurated in the Distelfeld industrial area. The new building at Rostocker Straße 17 was opened in the presence of prominent guests such as Nikola Hagleitner, CEO of Post & Parcel Germany of the DHL Group, Mayor Jan Einig and Miriam Leser, head of the Koblenz post office. And the result is impressive! It is one of the largest delivery bases in the region, the construction of which began on April 6, 2024 and went according to plan, as the [Rhein-Zeitung](https://www.rhein-zeitung.de/lokales/kreis-neuwied/neuer-zustellstuetzpunkt-neuwied- Feierlich-eroeffnet_arid-4078838.html) reports.
But that's not all: the opening of the delivery base comes in time to meet the increasing demand for parcel services. Deutsche Post is also pursuing a clear course when it comes to sustainability. The plans not only include environmentally friendly operations with state-of-the-art technology, but also a long-term plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, which envisages a 42% reduction by 2030, as we could read on the DHL website.
New post office – a step into the future
In addition, the opening of a new post office in downtown Neuwied was celebrated today in the TG Kiosk, Langendorfer Str. 131. Owner Gamze Dagdelen and Mayor Jan Einig were also present here. This branch is particularly versatile because it offers letter, parcel and express shipping services and is open Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. The City of Neuwied informs that there is also a post office box facility available there, which was already in operation during the opening period.
This reopening is a direct response to the termination of the contract with Postbank in Neuwied and shows that Deutsche Post has a good hand in creating and maintaining services in the region. An innovative concept is also being discussed, as the DHL Group is planning a modern showcase base for delivery drivers, equipped with a photovoltaic system, heat pump, underfloor heating and electric delivery vehicles. This shows that sustainable logistics is not just an empty phrase!
Sustainability in focus
When it comes to DHL's sustainability efforts, the company has ambitious goals. There are already over 42,000 CO2e-free vehicles in use, including street scooters, e-bikes and e-trikes. In addition, delivery is increasingly becoming CO2-free; this can already be observed in around 50% of the delivery districts in Germany. In addition, 38,000 electric vehicles and 14,000 e-trikes are expected to be on the roads by 2030.
These measures are part of a comprehensive sustainable program that not only takes into account the reduction of CO2e emissions, but also the introduction of environmental protection programs to bring logistics-related emissions to net zero by 2050.
In summary, it can be said that the new openings of both the delivery base and the post office in Neuwied not only mean a strengthening of the local infrastructure, but also represent a clear step towards the future and sustainability in logistics.
