Middle Rhine triumphs: Local winemakers win at Best of Riesling!

In the wine world, the signs point to success for the Middle Rhine. In the prestigious competition Meininger's Best of Riesling 2025 Two outstanding winemakers from the region were honored. Goswin Lambrich from Oberwesel came up trumps with his best dry Riesling from a steep site and secured first place in his category. Matthias Müller from Spay was also happy: He took second place in the Riesling noble sweet category.

The award ceremony took place in Neustadt and once again demonstrated the quality of the wines from Germany's smallest growing region. In addition to Lambrich and Müller, other winemakers such as Matthias Lambrich, Christiane Lambrich-Henrich and Johannes Müller were also represented at the event, who judged more than 1,350 Rieslings from all over the world.

Outstanding achievements and awards

The intensive tasting, which lasted almost three weeks, resulted in an impressive amount of awards, particularly for wines from Germany. The Palatinate was able to clearly dominate with 335 awards and the Moselle with 216 awards. But the wines of the Middle Rhine were also impressive with a total of 35 awards. Despite the strong competition, Lambrich managed to take first place in the dry vineyard Riesling category with a dry Riesling from the steep vineyard, which is an important recognition for the region.

Matthias Müller was also able to impress with his noble, sweet Riesling. Its placement, in turn, shows the versatility and quality of the Middle Rhine wines, which continue to be very popular internationally. The competition is recognized as an important platform for winemakers from other countries, such as Austria, which was able to boast 69 awards.

The awards were presented by editors-in-chief and the tasting manager of Meininger Verlag, and it shows that the tradition of viticulture on the Middle Rhine is being continued vigorously. The successes of Lambrich and Müller are not only personal triumphs, but also a sign of the region's general development and appreciation in the wine sector. In a year full of intensive competitions and tastings, the relevance of German wines was once again highlighted, especially since the internationally highly valued wines are convincing across the board.
