Groß and Brauße triumph in the heat battle of the DM in Dudenhofen!
The 138th German Track Cycling Championships recently provided exciting moments in Dudenhofen. While the sun was blazing mercilessly at over 50 degrees, the elite of German cycling delivered thrilling competitions and ensured an exciting day full of victories and surprises. Under these conditions, Felix Groß from Leipzig was able to successfully defend his title in the 4000 meter individual pursuit. He won the final with a time of 4:17.640 minutes against Miguel Heidemann from Darmstadt, who couldn't quite maintain his best time from qualifying with 4:21.174 minutes.
But it wasn't just the men who were getting hot. Franziska Brauße from Eningen (Ceratizit Pro Cycling Team) also showed an impressive performance among the women. She secured the title in the 4000 meter individual pursuit in 4:37.107 minutes, beating Lisa Klein from Saarbrücken. Mieke Kröger from Bielefeld completed the podium with third place in 4:44.315 minutes. All three athletes were already team Olympic champions in Tokyo in 2021, making their victory at the championships even more remarkable. The defending champion Katharina Fox from Mainz could not withstand this pressure and only took fifth place, which meant she missed the finals.
Franziska Brauße: A rising star
Franziska Brauße is not only strong in Dudenhofen, but can also look back on an impressive career. She won her first major individual title at the Track Cycling World Championships in France, where she won gold in the single pursuit. This marks another milestone in her career, which has already been marked by her Olympic victory in the foursome. She took over the title from the resigned Lisa Brennauer and proved that she is ready to follow in her predecessor's footsteps. “It’s special to take on this title,” she said proudly after her success.
A colorful field of medals
A breath of fresh air is blowing in German cycling around Brauße and the successful competition in Dudenhofen. Emma Hinze, who also shone with silver in the 500 meter time trial at the World Championships, completes her set of medals and shows that the German sprint team is strong. The team even won two titles in the overall ranking at the World Cup. Otherwise the athletes would not be spared health problems. So Hinze had to cancel the Keirin on Sunday.
The DM in Dudenhofen was more than just a competition; it was a showcase of the talent and ambition of these athletes. With this success behind us, we can look forward to the upcoming competitions, which will take place both in Germany and internationally. Today's athletes are the stars of tomorrow and make cycling in Germany a real highlight.
