New AfD local association in Bobenheim-Roxheim: starting signal for the election campaign!
There is a breath of fresh air in the Rhine-Palatinate district: a new local branch of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) was founded in Bobenheim-Roxheim. Loud Rhine Palatinate District association chairman Stefan Scheil and local association chairman Markus Nägle confirmed the founding. On June 11th, Nägle and his deputy Daniela Braun were elected unanimously - a total of seven votes.
The new board is supported by two other assessors, whose names have not been published. The duties of secretary and treasurer are taken over by the higher-level district association. There are currently 17 people active in the local association, although the exact number of members cannot be stated for data protection reasons. Building on this, the association's short-term goals are clearly defined: a successful state election campaign is imminent, and in the long term the aim is to fill the position of mayor in the town.
Voting behavior and AfD success
The political landscape in West Palatinate has changed significantly as a result of the 2025 federal election. Around 400,000 people were eligible to vote, and how SWR reports, the AfD candidates are becoming increasingly important. Matthias Mieves from the SPD was able to win the direct mandate in the Kaiserslautern constituency with 28% of the first votes. Sebastian Münzenmaier, AfD, follows closely behind with 25% and also enters the Bundestag.
What is particularly noteworthy is that the Kaiserslautern constituency is the only one in Rhineland-Palatinate that the AfD was able to win with the second votes. In the independent cities of the West Palatinate, the AfD is ahead: in Pirmasens, for example, it received 31.9% of the second votes, while in Landstuhl it achieved an impressive 40%.
Political analysis and voter sentiment
But what does this mean for the political situation in the country? Matthias Mieves describes the AfD’s performance as a “mission” to analyze voter sentiment more closely. As the Elections Research Group and Infratest Dimap show, the AfD is now the second strongest faction after the CDU/CSU. The loss of the majority among the traffic light parties has caused considerable upheaval, which also makes the re-election of Iris Nieland, AfD, to the Bundestag an interesting aspect.
The voter distribution also shows interesting tendencies: While younger voters (18-29 years old) in particular support the AfD, older voters mainly vote for the CDU and SPD. Voter turnout in the Kaiserslautern constituency was an impressive 81.5%. The Kusel district also recorded a strong result for the AfD, which was clearly in the lead in all of the association's municipalities.
In order to continue to monitor the political landscape in the Rhine-Palatinate district, it will be exciting to see how the activities of the new AfD local association in Bobenheim-Roxheim will develop and what impact the recent election results will have on local politics. The traffic light coalition faces the challenge of regaining lost trust, while the AfD knows how to use its momentum.
